Madrid Streets of Diversity - A UNIQUE walking tour with a CONSCIOUSNESS

This is a guided walking tour that will take us through the streets of Madrid to explore one essential question: how do cities decide what they remember — and what they choose to forget?

Along the way, we visit places that reflect the presence in Spain of Romans, Jewish communities, Arab kingdoms, the Church, the Spanish Civil War, Human Rights movements, the LGTBI community, refugees, and the traces of science and philosophy they brought with them. Their interaction reveals how diversity, cooperation, and exchange shaped the foundations of the society we live in today.

The tour concludes at the Prado Museum and the Royal Botanical Garden — two institutions born from the Enlightenment vision of Carlos III, who expanded Madrid as a city of science. Standing between painting and scientific illustration, art and nature, this final stop invites us to reconsider how knowledge has been observed, represented, and shared — and how these ways of seeing continue to shape our understanding of today’s social and environmental challenges and the world we live in.

BIO

Hello, my name is Euri! I first got a taste of intercultural life at 16 in South Africa, and that experience ended up shaping everything that came after. It pulled me into conservation and sustainable development, and since then I’ve worked across Africa and Europe — from biodiversity projects in Madagascar and renewable energy in South Africa, to sustainability consulting at the University of Edinburgh, and environmental education programmes in Portugal, Greece, and Iceland.

I also make watercolour paintings of endangered animal and plant species, and with it I support organisations in Africa that protect biodiversity and invest in education.

These days, whatever I design always starts from the same place: the stories, the history, and the cultural diversity that make each place and each community what it is.
