About this Event
Join Mad Science for their Summer Camp at the Forest Terrace Heights Community League!
Age Group: 5 to 11 years
Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Full Day). This camp offers early drop off from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m., and pick up from 4:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Duration: July 27 to 31, 2026
Topic: STEM Engineers Academy
STEM Engineers Academy: An awesome week of adventure, hands-on, minds-on discoveries and, chemical reactions!Mix it up and experiment with molecular madness, radical reactions and “fizz”-ical reactions! Through hands-on construction projects using LEGO® bricks, teams of campers will complete engineering projects of varying difficulty levels. They use critical thinking, and creative problem-solving to test and improve their creations.
Day1, 27 July (Monday): Radical Reactions: The lab is ready to welcome campers on a thrilling journey ofreactions that emit heat (exothermic), require heat (endothermic), proceed at a very fast pace and reactions that occur in spite of the fact they shouldn’t! Campers will team up to experiment with their lab equipment and discover their love of Chemistry as they spend the day creating cool chemical reactions.
Day 2, 28 July (Tuesday): Crazy Concoctions: Explore dynamic chemistry concoctions that "excite" and "ignite" our world to epic proportions! Campers make ooey-gooey concoctions to take home and explore super sticky materials in everyday life. They are engaged in fun-learning activities under the guidance of learned instructors.
Day 3, 29 July (Wednesday): Water Works: Create a sea-worthy vessel as you set sail with nautical engineering! Build a test boat with Lego bricks powered by potential and kinetic energy. Then try changing specific variables to improve speed, buoyancy, and stability. Work together with your fellow civil engineers to build and test different bridge designs. Then use what you've learned to create the strongest bridge possible.
Day 4, 30 July (Thursday): Fun Fair: Feel the thrill as you build a spinning swing ride using Lego bricks! Learn about forces and the mechanical engineering concepts behind some of your favorite amusement park rides. Then improve and test the design to create an even wilder ride. Discover nature's engineering secrets as you investigate biomimicry! Build a walking insect machine using Lego bricks and then test different ways to help it climb up the steepest branch.
Day 5, 31 July (Friday): Transportation: Get in gear as an automotive engineer! Assemble a motorized vehicle and learn how to optimize it. Use wheels, axles and gears to reduce friction so your vehicle runs better. Then, shift into higher gear and work hands-on with transmissions and gear ratios. Work in teams to design and build a transport vehicle that is strong enough to carry a heavy load.
An active community league membership (any league) is required to book Community League tickets (discounted rate).
