Discover the art of traditional Japanese doll-making at our upcoming MACreate South class at the Cacapon State Park Nature Center with Instructor, Hiroko Rubin.
In Japan, a doll festival takes place every March where families proudly display their special dolls, often handmade by mothers and grandmothers for their children. The Oshidori bird is one such doll, symbolizing a happy and lasting relationship as these birds mate for life.
In this class, you'll have the unique opportunity to create your own Oshidori bird using vintage Kimono fabric sourced directly from Japan by our instructor, Hiroko Rubin. Hiroko studied doll-making with a master in Japan and has years of experience teaching traditional Japanese crafts to people of all ages.
The workshop will involve basic hand stitching techniques, and kits will be provided with a variety of patterns and colors to choose from. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or new to doll-making, this class is perfect for anyone looking to explore the beauty and symbolism of Japanese culture through art.
