About this Event

DOORS 7PM | FIRST SET 7:30PM

When Mackenzie Shivers creates music, it’s as if it demands to be heard. The New York-based, folk-pop artist began writing music and playing piano when she was four years old, telling her mother she had “music locked inside of her that needed to come out.” Her new album 'primrose was in season', produced by frequent collaborator Kevin Salem (Rachael Yamagata, Emmylou Harris), is a powerful portrait of inner fragility and strength that’s at once gossamer and deeply profound. Through textures that are handmade and vibrant, Shivers examines who she is in the wake of loss and transition, all the while pulling each listener into a stunning musical terrain, providing “one of the most stirring listens of 2024” (Stereo Embers). The self-portrait she paints is honest and flawed, shimmering and spirited. Based in The Hudson Valley, Shivers “delivers a crafty 21st century update of the region’s established alt-folk sound with elements of dance beats and electric guitar akin to early Sia” (Rock and Roll Globe). Listening to her work leaves you with no doubt that you’ve entered the intimate and imaginative world of its creator.

Brooklyn-based indie-folk singer-songwriter Hallie Spoor’s compelling vocals and emotional storytelling have earned her the nickname “The Adele of Americana" (bolderbeat). "If you’re a fan of confessional lyrics and a strong, powerful voice,” writes 303 Magazine, “Spoor is your girl." Reminiscent of 1970s icons like Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell, Hallie’s music contains her own unique mix of “empathy and frankness,” (Radio Free Brooklyn) a warmth infused with the Western grit that comes from a Colorado childhood. She attributes the warmth to her grandfather, a jazz pianist who played “Penthouse Serenade” and “Maple Leaf Rag” by ear while she sat next to him on the piano bench, feet dangling, watching his hands dance across the keyboard. His music was “the soundtrack of our house, of every holiday, of our lives. Papa’s music brought the whole family together.” That desire to create community through music fuels Hallie today, and audiences respond: “She invites the listener into the world through her eyes, and her music brings a lightness and accessibility to moments that probably affect every listener …” (Radio Free Brooklyn).

She’s completed multiple national tours, playing iconic venues like The House of Blues and Hotel Cafe (LA), Dees Lounge (Nashville), The Hideout (Chicago), Rockwood Music Hall and Mercury Lounge in New York City. Hallie has three studio albums, two singles, and a series of music videos. Her 2020 EP “New Ground,” has been streamed more than 90,000 times on Spotify, and Spoor released her newest album, “Heart Like Thunder,” this October.

Captain Tallen & the Benevolent Entities are tender storytellers, weaving lyrics that sing of nostalgia and yearning with delicate and thoughtful instrumentation. They are also the crew members of an imaginary pirate ship called The Mirage.
