Check out the inspiring art exhibit curated by artist and professor Nasreen Khan. Nasreen Khan is an Indianapolis-based mixed-media artist, educator, and activist whose evocative work explores identity, immigrant motherhood, and cultural heritage. Her impactful community initiatives have earned her an Indy Arts Council Public Art for Neighborhoods grant, a Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship, a 2026 ABC Fellowship with Arts for Learning Indiana, and recognition as a Midwest Arts Writers Fellowship runner-up.
Hear the 2024-25 Youth Poet Laureate of Philadelphia and TEDxPenn speaker 2025 Malaya Ulan and watch her uncomparable mom/co-director, Anito Gavino, recipient of the 2021 Leeway Transformation Award, the MAPfund, Independent Public Media Fund, Velocity Fund, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, National Performance Network, and other major grants, has performed with acclaimed dance companies including Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Latin Ballet of Virginia, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers, and Ananya Dance Theatre.
The legendary New Orleans musician Wendell Brunious is featured as a special artist guest. Wendell is a master trumpeter, vocalist, and an international ambassador of traditional jazz. We applaud his Oscar-winning soundtrack for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom - now featured on Netflix. Named the first-ever Musical Director of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Wendell brings an unmatched depth of historical knowledge, performance experience, and insight into the preservation of culture through music.
We honorably welcome Briana Henry, owner of Pontchatrain Stables, and Robert Ramero, Philippine Honorary Consul, to our stage. Also welcome ROSALEE AKI, San Francisco -New Orleans African-American Filipino Multi-disciplined creative, artist, teacher community organizer/engagement.
Visit with the original "Balikbayou", and experience the heartbeat of San Francisco’s Latin music scene with legendary master percussionist Jarmon Balberan, who was literally born across from the New Orleans Jazz Museum and learned his love for music from his Manilaman Marigny father, Constancio Balberan. For decades, Jarmon has been a pillar of the SF Bay Area music community. Known for his current work with powerhouse groups like Anthony Blea, Guajiirón, Sofrito, Conjunto Corazón, Salsamigos, Susana y su Orquesta Adelante, and the pioneering social justice band Los Peludos, Jarmon delivers an infectious blend of traditional Cuban Son, vibrant Latin jazz, and soulful rhythms that will get you moving.
