Why this Summit Matters:
Muslim women in the UK have unique life experiences that can be impacted by many variables - not only identity (eg. ethnicity and religion), but also life situations (housing or immigration status, employment etc) and wider personal circumstances (such as caring responsibilities, disability, or marriage status).
As such, progressing in their careers, accessing public services, and participating in public life can be challenging for a huge number of reasons. Without targeted action and inclusive policies, these challenges will continue to stifle Muslim women’s growth, potential, and their contributions to society.
This conference offers a crucial opportunity to:
- Raise awareness about the unique experiences and needs of Muslim women.
- Empower participants by connecting them to a support network of peers, mentors, and policymakers.
- Influence policymaking and bringing the voices of Muslim women to the forefront of policy discussions.
How M-Women is different:
Too often, these types of events end with little future action and fail to achieve lasting change.
But M-Women is more than just an event.
This summit is part of the wider M-Women project that aims to influence long-term policy change cemented in the lived experiences of Muslim women.
Insights gathered throughout the summit will be combined with those gathered throughout the project by Community Policy Forum using online roundtables, listening exercises, and surveys with Muslim women across the UK. These insights will then be used to produce policy recommendations that will be submitted to the UK Parliament and local policy stakeholders in an effort to promote change. This summit will be the first of what will become an annual series of events that will drive our work and ensure that Muslim women’s interests remain on the policy agenda into the future.
