Workshop Focus:
Everyday Steps for Overcoming Childhood Adversity: Protective & Compensatory Experiences (PACES)
In Person Only
PDR Credit Available
Participants will explore:
- How adverse and protective childhood experiences (ACEs and PACEs) impact mental health and social relationships.
- Coping strategies, such as the Childhood Adaptation to ACEs (CHAACEs), which may help the child survive in the present.
- The importance of creating a vision of the future self that incorporates overcoming adversities from the past (The Hero's Journey).
- How to envision positive way to meet current needs, such as Grown-up Adaptations to ACEs (GrAACEs).
- How to meet a child's need in positive ways through PACEs-like activities that lead to the development of skills and help build character.
- Plans for changing the present by incorporating PACEs into everyday activities for individuals, families, and children.

Lynn Harris pursued her great interest in early childhood as a student working towards an advanced degree in child development before her untimely death. Her family honors her legacy through this endowed lectureship, which features notable speakers and draws audiences with great success.
