Ever wonder what Lupercalia is all about or what it might have to do with Valentine’s Day? Get ready for a deep dive into one of the most incredible cults in the archaic Roman religion and one of the most misunderstood holidays on the Roman calendar. In this class we are going to put Lupercalia into context within the Roman month of the Dead–February–the most dangerous month of the entire calendar year. We will also explore the cultural coding of the Wolf-Twins and, if there is time, get into some of the related traditions spread across Europe past and present. This stuff is wild!
