Join us for an exciting new cycle of screenings of contemporary Italian films in the spaces of our Institute! From September to December 2024 we will screen 8 films in Italian with English subtitles by the best contemporary directors.

The next appointment will be Monday 21 October 2024 at 6pm for the screening of: ‘Italian Race’ (2016), directed by Matteo Rovere.

The film will be screened in Italian with English subtitles and will be preceded by an analysis of the context and work of the director.

PLOT: The passion for engines has always flowed in Giulia De Martino‘s veins. She comes from a family that has been producing motor racing champions for generations. She too is a driver, an exceptional talent who, at the age of seventeen, took part in the GT Championship, under the guidance of her father Mario. But one day everything changes and Giulia finds herself having to face the track and life alone. Complicating the situation is the unexpected return of her brother Loris, a former driver by now totally unreliable, but with an extraordinary sixth sense for driving. They will be forced to work together, in a succession of adrenaline and emotions that will make them discover how difficult and important it is to try to be a family.

THE DIRECTOR: Born in 1982, Matteo Rovere started directing short films at very young age. In 2007, his short film Homo Homini Lupus won the Nastro d’Argento for best short film. In 2016, he wrote, directed and produced his third film Italian Race, starring Stefano Accorsi and Matilda De Angelis. It became one of the most successful box office hits in Italy that year, well received both by critics and audience. The film won best cinematography, best editing, best sound editing, best make-up artist and best musical effects at the 2017 David di Donatello’s awards and one Nastro d’Argento for best film editing. The film was sold in more than 40 Countries such as Germany, Japan, China, Australia, France, South America, Russia, South Korea and Taiwan. In 2019 he directed the historical drama The First King: Birth of an Empire, starring Alessandro Borghi and Alessio Lapice. The film was nominated for eight Nastro d’argento awards such as Best Film and Best Director.
