Talk by Richard T Kelly, author of The Black Eden (Faber)Marking the paperback publication of Richard T. Kelly's hugely acclaimed novel The Black Eden, Richard will talk about the real-life research that went into this book, which powerfully dramatizes the story of the discovery of North Sea oil and the impact the 'black gold' had upon Scots whose lives it touched, sometimes with devastating consequences. Richard will also describe how his Aberdeen-set story shares themes and ideas with other recent novels ("petro-fictions") by international authors who have written stories from oil-producing nations as various as Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and the USA.
