Eugenia Russell is a Greek-born classical musician, historian and writer. She plays the violoncello, piano and mandolin and has a particular interest in early music, chamber music and folksong. She holds degrees from the Universities of London and Bristol and the Royal Academy of Music and a Piano Diploma from the Victoria College of Music. She has published non-fiction books and articles for various publishers, magazines and newspapers - including local history - and recently co-founded an independent publishing imprint, Lone Fox Publishing, offering books on art, illustration, photography, literature and poetry. These include a book on the Romantic poet John Keats and the Pre-Raphaelites, a series on early colour photography of the British Isles; as well as gift books, cards and prints. Her latest book, The Rose: the botanical drawings of Pierre-Joseph Redouté (2022) celebrates with 70 colour illustrations the work of the great Belgian painter and botanical artist (1759–1840), who loved and studied the rose and is often called ‘the Raphael of flowers’.
