The West Baton Rouge Museum will host a Lunchtime Lecture on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 12 Noon featuring Warren LeJeune, Jr. Mr. LeJeune had the great honor and privilege of first being a student of Mr. Searcy’s and later had the pleasure of working alongside him at the very same high school as principal when he became Mr. Searcy’s boss at Port Allen High School. Hear Mr. LeJeune share his unique perspective as a former student and professional colleague. This program will also include a tribute video comprised of memories shared by former students, fellow teachers, and community members who recognize the difference he made in their lives. This program is accompanying the current exhibit, West Baton Rouge’s Educator, Edward Searcy.
Our speaker, Warren LeJeune, Jr. is a lifelong resident of West Baton Rouge parish, a graduate of Port Allen High School, Louisiana Tech University (Bachelor’s Secondary Education), Southern University (Master’s Educational Administration) and the United States Air Force Reserve Academy of Military Science Commissioning Program. He has worn a variety of career hats with different titles and positions as Teacher, Coach (Brusly High School), Principal (Port Allen High School), Airman, Officer, and Commander. He is a retired Major of the United States Air Force with 25 years of service with the 926th Fighter Wing, NAS New Orleans and 403rd Wing (Hurricane Hunters), Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, and Retired West Baton Rouge Parish Educator with 34 years of service. Presently, our speaker serves as the humble Preaching Teaching Pastor of Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church of Maringouin, LA. He and his wife, Phyllis have been married for 34 years. He is father of two, Warren III and Gabrielle, and grandfather to one grandson, Warren IV.
The exhibit, West Baton Rouge’s Educator, Edward Searcy celebrates the life and legacy of the beloved Port Allen teacher and Civil Rights leader. This display in the museum’s Brick Gallery covers his decades long career as an educator at Cohn High School and then Port Allen High School, his activism efforts to bring voting rights and equal access to employment and equal pay for all, and his impact in the classroom as well as the community. This exhibit will be on view through April 6.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Anyone attending is welcome to bring a brown bag lunch or visit local eateries in the area before or after the presentation.
