About this Event

Join us for this bite sized lunch time talk exploring the history of medicine.

Artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Peter Paul Rubens studied human anatomy closely in order to represent the body with greater realism and expressive power. Their investigations into muscles, movement, and the physical limits of the human body shaped how artists approached one of the most powerful subjects in Christian art: Christ on the cross.

In this talk, human remains conservator Cat Irving explores how anatomical knowledge has influenced artistic attempts to understand and depict the physical realities of crucifixion.

Talks will last approximately 30 mins and there will be tea and coffee available for ticket holders.
