About the Show

Lunch Break Jazz Ensemble brings a fresh, high-energy sound to Nashville. Named for the fun, easygoing spirit the band brings to its music, this quintet of rising local musicians blends unreleased original tunes with jazz classics and surprising covers you’ll recognize — and love. The show features the live debut of two originals, "Crabwalk" and "Longing For," written by bandleader and bassist Spencer Padway.

The Band

Spencer Padway  —  Bass, Bandleader

Bandleader and bassist Spencer Padway founded Lunch Break, bringing his California-honed jazz sensibility to Nashville for the first time. The set includes the live debut of two of his originals, "Crabwalk" and "Longing For."

Jesus Agreda  —  Drums, Percussion

A prolific Nashville drummer, percussionist, and producer, Jesus Agreda has performed with Giovanni Rodriguez and the 12 Manos, Pitch Meeting, and many other groups around the city.

Erik Abernathy  —  Guitar, Bass

An award-winning guitarist and bassist, Erik Abernathy draws on a wide range of influences — Brazilian music, Hot Club jazz, classical guitar, bebop, rock, folk, and blues — shaped by years of study with celebrated guitarists. His duo, Giselle and Erik, recently released their sophomore EP, "Morning Brew." He also teaches and leads ensembles at the Nashville Jazz Workshop.

Nathan Duncan  —  Piano

Pianist Nathan Duncan brings a deep, thoughtful sound shaped by a wide range of influences, building his playing on the foundations of the jazz greats who came before him.

Christian Montilla  —  Saxophone, Clarinet

A versatile saxophone and clarinet player, Christian Montilla got his start in jazz bands in Venezuela before bringing his richly layered sound to Nashville and the Nashville Jazz Workshop.
