About this Event
StartingBlock's Lunch & Learn: Investor Series.
A monthly event featuring top investors from Wisconsin who specialize in startup investments. Each session provides a comprehensive overview of the investor's company philosophy, areas of investment interest, and the rationale behind their past and present startup investments. Attendees, primarily founders, will gain valuable insights into the current deployment of funds and the key criteria these investors look for in potential investments. Additionally, the investors will offer practical advice on how startups can best prepare for meetings with them. This series includes interactive Q&A sessions and valuable networking opportunities.
This month features Juan Gomez, Vice President of Lending at Investment at Madison Development Corporation.
Juan Gomez is Vice President of Lending and Investments at Madison Development Corporation, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable, workforce housing and attainable business loans to the residents and businesses of Dane County. He assumed that role earlier this year after two years as capital finance officer for the State of Wisconsin and five years as technology investment manager for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. He has extensive experience in economic development, public finance, and real estate. Juan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and MBA, both from UW-Whitewater. He is fluent in Spanish and can also speak Russian.
Madison Development Corporation (MDC) Venture Debt Fund is designed to provide debt financing to emerging growth companies. The debt is structured with repayment forecast from the company’s ability to reach cash-flow breakeven with its existing liquidity or the company’s ability to raise additional equity capital. The Fund is intended to be complementary to early-stage equity sources of capital and stretch the ability of growth companies to access capital at a predictable cost while giving up minimal ownership or control.
The Fund was established in 2004 to fill a gap in financing for early-stage tech companies that create high quality jobs in our region. Since inception, the Fund has provided over $20 million in financing to 55 companies to help create nearly 2,180 jobs in Dane County.
This in person event is FREE and open to members and non-members of StartingBlock. New entrepreneurs and students encouraged. Lunch will be provided.
