Proudly perched atop the highest hill in downtown Nashville, the Tennessee State Capitol has been home to Tennesseans for over 170 years, not just as our seat of government but the site of public celebrations, memorials, civic demonstrations, school field trips and so much more. Now, Jeff Sellers and the Tennessee State Museum have published a photographic history that documents the many generations that have visited, legislated, and preserved this national historic landmark. From renowned architect, William Strickland’s Greek Revival design, to the enslaved workers, stone masons, and convicts that helped build it the book recounts the early years, through the tumultuous Civil War, and the endless efforts of each generation to modernize it while preserving it for future Tennesseans. Join us for this scenic tour through rare and sometimes never seen photos of the historic Tennessee State Capitol.Copies of the book will be for sale in the Museum’s gift shop and Jeff will hold a signing at the conclusion of the program. Show your Eventbrite ticket to receive a discount on your purchase of the book in the Museum Store.
This Lunch and Learn event is in-person in the Museum’s Digital Learning Center at 12:00 p.m. No RSVPs are required to attend this free event. It will also be livestreamed on the Museum’s website at TNMuseum.org/Videos. If you have any questions please email [email protected].
