Overview

Three local changemakers will be presenting on the work that they and their organizations are doing. Each will present for 10 minutes, and then there will be three breakout discussion groups based on a prompt from each presenter. This event is a great way to learn more about what other nonprofits and social enterprises are doing, as well as connect with the community for collaboration.

Presenters

Mackenzie Slalloum providing on "An overview of Measurement-Based Care (MBC)"

Mackenzie has a drive for lifelong learning and improving the lives of others through technology, and currently works as a software developer at Greenspace Health. He enables mental healthcare providers to do their job more effectively by integrating Greenspace and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. He has previously worked at FreshGrade, an ed-tech startup recently acquired by Higher Ground Education. Mackenzie recently moved to Victoria with his partner in search of community.

With automated delivery and an ever-expanding library of evidence-based assessments, providers can tailor their measurement process to their clients’ specific needs and gather rich insights throughout care. Organizations using Greenspace can leverage their data and insights to improve client engagement and outcomes, inform treatment planning and program innovations and advocate for increased funding.

Laurel Draper on "Improving Navigation and Access to Mental Health Services in Greater Victoria"

Laurel Draper is a communications professional applying her skills in event and project coordination for the PSR Collaborative. She has successfully launched and grown their social gathering place pilot project by providing recurring, welcoming, social events for people living with mental health challenges. She is also tackling a second pilot from the PSRC; to improve navigation of mental health and substance use services here in Greater Victoria.

, short for "psychosocial rehabilitation" promotes personal recovery, successful community integration and satisfactory quality of life for people who have a mental health and/or substance use concern. The PSR Collaborative formed in 2014 in response to effective advocacy work undertaken by families and their allies that highlighted gaps and barriers for people with mental health challenges to access and engage in recovery-oriented services. Today the PSR Collaborative works to increase social connectivity and engagement among people living with mental illness.

Venue Instructions

theDock - Centre For Social Impact is located on the third floor of 722 Cormorant Street, across the street from Victoria City Hall. To enter the building, simply press the wheelchair access button to the right of the glass sliding doors and then press the third floor button in the elevator which can be found directly in the lobby. While you should be greeted at reception, the event room, the Port, can be found to the left of the end of the first hallway.

There is 2-hour street parking available in front of the building, as well as two parkades within a few minutes walking of the building.
