About Lunar New Year
The Lunar New Year is celebrated from the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar, which is based on the cycles of the moon and ends on the next full moon fifteen days later.
It is celebrated all around the world including:
China (ChūnJié), Mongolia (Tsagaan Sar), Indonesia (Imlek), Malaysia (Hokkien: Chap Goh Mei), Singapore, South Korea (Seollal), Taiwan, and of course, Vietnam (Tết).
Of all festivals in Vietnam, Tết is the most family-centered holiday, and Vietnamese people often travel back to the places where their families are from to spend the holiday with their extended families. Families will prepare a feast to welcome visiting relatives and friends, to exchange greetings and best wishes for the New Year.
Lanterns are often hung to celebrate Lunar New Year. The lantern festival takes place on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, and it marks the end of the New Year celebration. Big displays of colourful lanterns are built showing different creatures, objects and scenes for people to view.
Where is it happening?VietNom, 54 Berry Street, Liverpool, United Kingdom
