Michelle's light-filled gallery, nestled in a 1960s greenhouse in Mill Valley, represents fine art metal and fiber prints that elevate and transform private and commercial spaces. Her work illuminates timeless moments of the human experience, from the vibrancy of San Francisco's Chinese New Year parade to the elegant beaded jacket of a Matador in Spain.

Director of Harvey Milk Photo Center

Began working with the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department in 2012 as the city-wide, Visual & Digital Program Coordinator for the Cultural Arts department before becoming the Director of the Photo Center in August 2021. Melissa has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Academy of Art University. Before joining San Francisco Recreation & Parks, she specialized in commercial exterior and interior architectural photography. She was an early advocate for digital photography and a consultant to many photographers. Melissa taught courses in digital photography and marketing at the Academy of Art University.

Established in 1940, the Harvey Milk Photo Center has been serving the San Francisco community for over eight decades. As the oldest and largest community wet darkroom in the United States, we’re proud to be associated with the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department. Our offerings extend to a full digital lab, available to our members. Situated at 50 Scott Street, within Duboce Park, on the lower level of the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts building, we’ve been rooted in this location since 1954.

Beyond providing access to our community darkroom and digital lab, we boast a diverse range of offerings including classes, workshops, membership options, a photo library, lectures, book signings, and numerous photography exhibits and events. The Harvey Milk Photo Center serves as a vibrant hub where the community converges to create, learn, share, and find inspiration.
