Create unique botanical prints using sunlight and photo paper in this hands-on camera-less photography workshop. No experience needed.
About this Event

Lumen printing (solar photogram) is a camera-less, experimental form of photography that uses sunlight and photographic paper to create images. Black and white photographic papers are overlaid with objects, usually plant matter like flowers or leaves, and placed in sunlight to expose. As the paper reacts to the light, colors shift, and impressions and silhouttes of the object emrege. Once removed from the light, the papers are fixed and washed in order to preserve the image long-term.

This lumen printing workshop explores the intersection of photography, botany and chance through camera-less image making, encouraging playfulness and attunement. This creative method allows for continuous experimentation and an engagement with process, and is deeply connected to the place we create within.

The workshop will include demonstrations, guided experimentation, and time to produce finished works. Participants will leave with knowledge and understanding of the process and several lumen prints made during the workshop. No previous experience required!

Part of an ongoing collaboration with Daffodil Drift, a floral studio that sources seasonal flowers from Ontario growers and celebrates local blooms through art and design.

Hosted at CineCycle, a community-driven space at 401 Richmond known for experimental and independent programming.
