There is only one Luke Slater. The UK artist is truly worthy of a host of superlatives: seminal, groundbreaking, genre defying. Slater’s embrace of techno in the genre’s formative years helped to propel it into its modern form. Rigorously constructed, leaning as much on sculpted noise, frequencies and the mutable infinities of the synthesizer, an overview of Slater’s sprawling discography might as well describe techno as a whole. Across a range of aliases and collaborations, Slater helped write the playbook that countless producers and DJs would follow. Bassiani resident NDRX draws from similar pools as Slater. The Georgian artist has an incredible, deft touch that commands the room, taking dancers on a seamless journey through spaces that are by turns gritty, steamy and epochal. 98dots steps up for his debut, channeling a rugged punkiness and springy, determined techno. Clarisa Kimskii returns for a special house set in STUDIO. The Merge resident is one of the city's premier techno conjurers, but her practice goes way beyond that main lane. Kimskii has a decades-long relationship with electronic music that spans eras and genres. She brings it all together with an impeccable ear and a flair for deep, rolling tracks that bang it out with a twist. Analog Soul is back where they belong. Their reign in the room is unquestioned and unstoppable. The duo of DatKat and Jacky Sommer brings an uncanny chemistry and powerful authority to the booth. Their history goes back to the end of the 90s, a peak time for house music in NY. Rooted in the clubs, record stores and ethos of that era, Analog Soul has carried the spirit into our current age. Istanbul-born, NY-based Lorant threads his mixes with joyous queerness and throbbing eroticism.
