About this Event
This event does not require registration.
The turbulent life of Ludwig van Beethoven has long been a source of intrigue for scholars. The Heiligenstadt Testament, a letter addressed to his brothers Carl and Johann on October 6, 1802, reveals a very personal side to him. It covers topics such as the level of his despair over the loss of his hearing, as well as overcoming other physical and emotional ailments on his quest to achieve his artistic destiny.
During this program, we will examine this letter, as well as another letter addressed to an “Immortal Beloved” from July 1812, which remained unsent to the mysterious recipient. The program will conclude with several scholars’ theories on the identity of this woman, as well as clips from the 1994 film, Immortal Beloved.
This program is free and intended for teens and adults. No registration is required.
