The Low Residency MFA in Visual Studies (LRVS) program at PNCA is hosting visiting artist Kota Ezawa for lecture on his practice.
About this Event

Kota Ezawa visually transforms imagery he mines from the news, the history

of art, photography, film, and popular culture in his video animations, light

boxes, murals, sculptures, watercolors, and works in other media. His process

of translating recognizable depictions of contemporary and historic moments

from one visual form to another, is an inquiry, for the artist and viewer alike,

into our cultural consciousness, shaped by images.

Kota Ezawa’s artworks have been presented in solo exhibitions at Fort Mason

Center for Arts & Culture, San Francisco; SITE Santa Fe; Mead Art Museum;

and Buffalo AKG Art Museum. Ezawa participated in the Whitney Biennial in

2019 and the Shanghai Biennale in 2004. His work is in the collections of

institutions including The Art Institute of Chicago, Baltimore Museum of Art,

Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Metropolitan Museum of Art,

The Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and

Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. A recipient of a Louis

Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship, Ezawa

studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the San Francisco Art Institute, and

Stanford University.
