Corazón y vida: Lowriding Family Festival

Saturday, September 27, (Rain Date: Sunday, September 28)

Corazón y vida: Lowriding Family Festival celebrates the opening of the new exhibition Corazón y vida: Lowriding Culture, a showcase of the artistic expression, technological innovations, and storytelling of lowriders.

With activities for all ages, the festival includes:

LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCES FEATURING:

  • California-based band Thee Heart Tones, playing their fresh take on Chicano soul
  • DJ set by LA- based DJ Melissa Dueñas, weaving nostalgic sounds with contemporary rhythms
  • DC-based Mariachi Los Amigos
  • Panel "Low, Loud, and Sound: Cruisin’ through Lowrider Music" with Scholar on lowrider culture Dr. Denise Sandoval; DJ, audio producer, writer, and journalist Melissa Dueñas, and trailblazing journalist and an international ambassador for music and art Félix Contreras.

LOWRIDERS

  • Showcase of local cars, bikes, and a hydraulic system by Virginia-based Just Klownin Car Club

HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES

  • Tweak a mini lowrider at Draper Spark!Lab
  • Storytime sessions with the DC Public Library
  • Hands-on auto body shop experience with artists, featuring airbrushing , pinstriping, and upholstery, with the National Museum of the American Latino
  • Community art wall to be displayed in the General Motors Learning Lounge in Spring 2026, in collaboration with the National Museum of the American Latino
  • Create your own lowrider activity in front of the Molina Family Latino Gallery

AFTER 4:30PM

  • History Film Forum featuring lowrider films and conversation with filmmakers.

The National Museum of American History welcomes visitors of all ages and abilities. This event is wheelchair accessible. ASL services, and real-time captioning in English and in Spanish will be provided. Additional accommodations are available upon request; please email [email protected].

Festival Familiar Lowriding: Corazón y vida celebra la inauguración de la nueva exposición Corazón y vida: la cultura lowrider, una muestra de la expresión artística, las innovaciones tecnológicas y la narración de historias de los lowriders.

Con actividades para todas las edades, el festival incluye:

MÚSICA:

  • La banda californiana Thee Heart Tones, con su nueva versión del soul chicano
  • DJ Melissa Dueñas, de Los Ángeles, combina sonidos nostálgicos con ritmos contemporáneos
  • El Mariachi Los Amigos, basado en Washington D. C.
  • Panel "Low, Loud, and Sound: Recorriendo la música lowrider", por la Dra. Denise Sandoval, experta en cultura lowrider; la DJ, productora de audio, escritora y periodista Melissa Dueñas y el periodista pionero y embajador internacional de la música y el arte Félix Contreras.

LOWRIDERS:

  • Exhibición de autos, motos y un sistema hidráulico a cargo del club de autos Just Klownin de Virginia

ACTIVIDADES CREATIVAS:

  • Ajusta un mini lowrider en el Draper Spark!Lab.
  • Sesiones de cuentos con la Biblioteca Pública de DC.
  • Experiencia práctica en un taller de carrocería con artistas, incluyendo aerografía, rayado y tapicería, con el Museo Nacional del Latino Estadounidense.
  • Mural de arte comunitario que se exhibirá en el Salón de Aprendizaje de General Motors en la primavera de 2026, en colaboración con el Museo Nacional del Latino Estadounidense.
  • Crea tu propia actividad de lowrider frente a la Galería Latina de la Familia Molina.

  • Foro de Cine Histórico con películas de lowrider y charlas con cineastas.
