About this Event
Join us for the opening reception for “LOVINGY: Black, Queer, Interracial Tennessee in Craft,” an exhibition co-curated by Crafting Blackness Initiative’s Karlota Contreras-Koterbay with Karen LeBlanc Sullivan and Lyn Govette. This exhibition aims to recognize the presence and celebrate the visibility of LGBTQ and interracial Black artists, often disenfranchised neighbors whose creative dissent are in forms of craft.
Featured artists are Ericka Basille, Ashley Buchanan, Kelsie Dulaney, Pam Faw, Jason Flack, Kidd Graves, Doniqua Joyner, Rahn Marion, Wokie Massaquoi-Wicks, James McKissic, Elisheba Mrozic and Jeremy Myles.
The opening reception for “LOVINGY: Black, Queer, Interracial Tennessee in Craft” at The Arrowmont Gallery will be on First Friday, March 7th from 5:00-7:00 PM, followed by DJ Soularia set from 7:00-9:00 PM. There will be artists’ talk during the opening reception with curators reading poems by Black Power LGBTQ poet Nikki Giovanni as homage to both her and fellow Knoxville-born Black Tennessean Beauford Delaney. Please Come Out and Dress as You Are in all your magnificence!
