H IGH SCHOOL SENIOR CLASS OF 2025!
The Candies Hicks Scholarship will be awarded to 2 graduating High School Senior girls!
AMOUNT: (2) $500
CRITERIA
● Applicants must be a graduating senior.
● Applicants must be completing or have completed high school successfully with a minimum cumulative
GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale by October 12, 2024.
● Scholarship recipient(s) will receive their check May 26, 2025.
The deadline for the application is October 12th. Applications after this date will not be considered. Please email application to [email protected].
About Candies Hicks
The biography of Candies Hicks is both simple and complex. Candies Hicks was born to Dave and Annie Irby on December 26, 1899, in Rehoboth, Alabama. She met and married Louis Hicks and from that union she bore five children. The youngest of the five passed at an early age. While always in place, her love for children grew larger than life. She opened her door to any child in need and became known as “Big Mamma.” She relocated to Los Angeles, California and her love for children continued. There was no need for any that was blessed enough to know her, to budget in an expense for childcare. Her being able to bestow her love was all the payment she required. She was a virtuous woman (Proverbs 31: 10-31) and built her life on God’s Word. She believed the criteria of handling people was simple, "DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM TO DO UNTO YOU" (LUKE 6:31). While this was a simple task for her, it was and still is complex for others today. Although she had no more than a third-grade education herself, she knew that the most powerful weapon against anything that life would ever bring to someone is a good education. Candies Hicks relocated for her last time to her mansion in heaven on April 18, 1983. We, her family, would like to remember all her good works and beliefs by offering a helping hand to someone who is embarking on a new beginning.
