For centuries, the Kama Sutra and Tantric traditions have inspired conversations about desire, pleasure, consciousness and the human experience. Yet in popular culture, both have often been reduced to sex.
The Kama Sutra is far more than a collection of sexual positions. This classical Indian text explores pleasure as part of a broader philosophy of life, including courtship, relationships, social customs and the cultivation of desire.
Tantra is far more than a technique for better sex. Rooted in diverse Indian spiritual traditions, Tantra encompasses philosophical teachings, ritual and contemplative practices. Contemporary approaches to Tantra often draw on breathwork, mindfulness and embodied awareness to explore intimacy and connection.
KAMA brings these worlds into conversation, inviting us to look beyond the stereotypes and explore what ancient traditions might teach us about how we love, desire, communicate and connect today.
Through conversation, education, reflection and guided experiential practices, we'll examine the stories we've inherited about sex and relationships—and make room for a more personal understanding of pleasure and intimacy.
THE EXPERIENCE
The afternoon opens with Phillia and a shamanic limpia, an energetic cleansing ritual rooted in Andean healing traditions, working with the elements of fire, air, water, earth and sound to clear, ground and prepare for the experience ahead.
KAMA SUTRA — MORE THAN POSITIONS
Dr. Sarika Persaud guides us beyond the Kama Sutra's popular reputation as a manual of sexual positions, exploring its historical and cultural foundations and its teachings on love, desire, pleasure, relationships and the art of living.
Through ancient Indian philosophy and contemporary conversation, we'll examine what this often-misunderstood text can teach us about intimacy, attraction and the pursuit of a fulfilling life.
Following a social lunch hour, we move into our second workshop.
TANTRA — SLOW THE FUCK DOWN
Candice Leigh introduces us to contemporary Tantra-inspired practices, exploring breath, presence, body awareness and intentional connection.
An invitation to move beyond performance, expectations and the pressure to do intimacy "right"—and instead explore what it means to be fully present with ourselves and others.
Through guided experiential practices, we'll explore how greater awareness, communication, boundaries and self-connection can deepen our experience of intimacy and pleasure.
SHAMANIC JOURNEY — RETURN TO YOURSELF
We close with Phillia and a guided shamanic journey, an opportunity to integrate the afternoon's teachings and turn our attention inward.
Through guided meditation, imagery and reflection, we'll explore our relationship with love, desire and intimacy—what we're ready to release, what we want to reclaim and how we wish to show up more fully in our relationships and our lives.
A moment to reconnect with ourselves before returning to the world.
Whether you're single, partnered, exploring your relationship with sexuality or simply interested in ancient wisdom, KAMA offers an opportunity to discover new perspectives without judgment, pressure or expectations.
No prior experience is necessary. All relationship statuses and experience levels are welcome.
All experiential practices are invitational, with personal boundaries and consent respected throughout.
Ancient wisdom made practical for modern love + life.
