Join the Houston Writers Guild as we kick off our writing year for 2023 with a one day, two session seminar.
About this Event

Kick off your writing year with this one day, two session seminar presented by the Houston Writers Guild. We will begin the day with a powerhouse writing craft focuse workshop presented by Sarah Cortez. After lunch, Ronel Golden will walk us through getting our business plan in place for authorpeneurial success.

This in person seminar will be hosted starting at 9 am through 4 pm at:

About the Presenter:

Sarah Cortez has been working with authors as a teacher, writing coach, developmental editor, and cheer leader since 1999, with her creative writing instruction spanning students from first grade to graduate level and beyond. She’s worked for several publishing houses as a developmental editor and has fourteen traditionally published books in poetry, essay, crime fiction, YA, and literary fiction. She is a Councilor of the Texas Institute of Letters, Fellow of the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, and Fellow of the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her poems, essays, book reviews, and short stories have been anthologized and published in journals, such as Texas Monthly, Rattle, The Sun, Pennsylvania English, Texas Review, Louisiana Literature, The Midwest Quarterly, Southwestern American Literature. Her books have placed as finalists and won many contests, such as the Writers’ League of Texas Awards, Los Angeles Book Festival Awards, The National Federation of Press Women Communications Awards, the PEN Southwest Poetry Awards, International Latino Book Awards, Border Region Librarians Assn. Award, Tucson Book Festival Awards, Press Women of Texas Editing Award. She has been both a Houston and Texas finalist for poet laureate. Her latest novel is a crime fiction thriller, The Carlucci Betrayal.

About the Presenter:

Ronel Golden is a communications advisor to corporate and community leaders and author based in Houston, Texas. Born in the Netherlands and raised in South Africa and Europe, Ronel draws from her global and diverse personal and professional experiences to write fiction and non-fiction that inspires individuals to face their demons and embark on transformational journeys for themselves and others.

In her historical fiction romance, Nicole, Ronel tells the story of a searching white ballerina and a strong-willed Indian boy who grow to love each other amidst the turmoil of late Apartheid South Afirca - an environment that will pull them apart and push both towards the brink of death. In her soon-to-be released self help book, The Getting Out Guide, Ronel helps victims of abuse understand what they're dealing with in simple terms and gives them a proven, practical, step-by-step roadmap for getting out and moving on.
