About this Event

We invite you to experience a deeply moving performance based on the true story of a mother’s love for the son she lost.

This is a story about choosing life after loss. About discovering that healing does not mean forgetting — it means finding a new way to carry love forward.
Blending live performance, authentic audio recordings, documentary photographs, video projections, and live musical accompaniment, the performance invites audiences into an intimate story of transformation. It explores how love can evolve rather than disappear, and how unexpected acts of kindness can restore hope when everything feels lost.

The event is dedicated to the memory of the fallen. All proceeds will support bereavement programs for mothers who have lost their children to the war.

At the heart of the performance is the personal story of Hanna Kisilishyna — a mother, teacher, and artist, whose life was forever changed by the war in Ukraine. When Hanna loses her son, Azov defender Oleksii Kisilishyn, during the terrorist attack in Olenivka, her world comes to a halt. What follows is not only a journey through grief, but a search for meaning, healing, and the courage to live again.

The performance concludes with an exhibition of Hanna’s original paintings, created as part of her healing journey, accompanied by live music and poetry.

The date of the performance was chosen with special meaning.
August 29 is the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence. It is a day that holds deep pain for every mother, and a moment for us to come together in remembrance — honouring the fallen and standing with the families who carry their love and legacy forward every day.

Through this event, Maple Hope Foundation and a talented creative team bring this story to Canadian audiences, reminding us that war is more than headlines and statistics. Behind every loss is a mother, a family, and a story that cannot be forgotten or lost.

A meaningful part of the event will be the 'Resilience in Bloom' photo exhibition, which reflects the courage, dignity, and inner strength of Ukrainian women — mothers and wives of defenders who were killed during the defence of Mariupol and in Olenivka.

Created by the Ukrainian non-profit Heart nAZOVni / Cерце нАЗОВні, the exhibition brings together the stories of twenty women connected by shared grief. After losing their children and loved ones, they are learning to live with their pain, support one another, help others, and preserve the memory of those they love, allowing it to live on and reach others.

The exhibition will be displayed in the venue foyer and will be open to the public free of charge.
