Love Haiku Chalking for CR Pride

Calling volunteer poets and chalkers! We’re looking for people to help chalk love haiku around our block on Saturday morning for CR Pride.
You’re also invited to write a haiku for someone you love (or about love in general). Send it to us on any platform and we’ll do our best to chalk as many as we can.
We’ll start at 9am on Saturday, weather permitting, outside the Heart House. The address is 1301 3rd Street SE, about 2 blocks from NewBo City Market.

Q. What time Saturday morning?
A. We’ll start at 9am, weather permitting.
Q. I’m not available at 9am. Can I chalk later in the day?
A. Yes! We’d just like to have as much done as possible before the parade starts at 11am so more people can enjoy it.
Q. What if there’s rain?
A. We won’t chalk in the rain or if it’s about to rain.
Q. Can I chalk if my handwriting is atrocious?
A. Yes! as long as it’s legible. Handwriting is one of the things that makes us unique and everyone’s should be appreciated.
Q. I want to submit a love haiku to be chalked. How do I do that?
A. Message your poem to us on any platform. You can DM us on Facebook or Instagram, text to 812-219-6119, or email us at [email protected]
Q. Can you remind me what the haiku form is like?
A. Haiku are three lines long with a 5/7/5 syllable structure. There are 5 syllables in the first and third lines, and 7 syllables in the second line.
Q. Can we chalk poetry other than haiku? How about quotes or slogans?
A. Yes. However this is an invitation for you to get creative and share the creativity of those in this beautiful community.
When choosing what to write, we ask that you keep it positive and family friendly.
Q. Can I/my kids chalk pictures instead?
A. Yes! We love chalk art and welcome that too. Poetry is one of the things we’re known for and is less common so that’s what we’re focusing on.
