About this Event

The Phoenix Choir is proud to present our event Love, Dolly!

On Saturday, the 21st of November at 1pm, we invite you to join us at Ps and Gs church on York Place to celebrate the lasting legacy of Dolly Parton the only way we know how: with huge tunes and big Phoenix energy!

Dolly Parton’s music might not be what you associate with the Phoenix Choir, but she encompassed so many of the values we stand for and adore: being unapologetically yourself, celebrating community through singing, and showing up as our best for the people around us. Music and books are two of the most important ways we can think of that help us engage with each other, and having recently launched our Kids & Youth choirs, we are keenly aware of how important it is to support a love for storytelling (through words AND song) at every age.

This is why we’re delighted to announce that the proceeds of the ticket sales for this event will be donated to the Scottish Book Trust and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library UK!

What you can expect at the event:

MUSIC: We’ve reached out to some of our friends to make you (and Dolly!) proud for this special event. The Phoenix Choir will be joined by special guests Jed Potts & Emily Kelly to bring you the best curation of songs we all know and love. Get ready for big Phoenix energy and stunning lyrical displays that will make this an unforgettable afternoon. Whether you’re eight or eighty, there’s something for everyone!

OFFERINGS FOR FAMILIES: Specially-designed bookmarks will be available for free on the day, and there’ll be colouring-in sheets to take away (or keep kids entertained during the break!). Our amazing featured guests will also have plenty of things for families to browse.

BOOKS: Our friends at Argonaut Books will have a stall where you can browse books for children, books about music, Dolly Parton-inspired titles, and more.

In addition to this, the Scottish Book Trust will have a stall with some of their excellent offerings, and they will tell us all a little bit about the work they do. This year is the National Year of Reading in the UK, and the Scottish Book Trust has many programmes that run year-round to support a love for reading at every age and level.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library UK will be featured as well, with fundraising materials and information on how they support children’s reading across the world. The best part? The money that we raise for them will be ring-fenced and used specifically to support their work here in Scotland! For reference, £26 pays for one year of monthly book deliveries to one child.

Just by attending this event, you will make sure that reading is supported in lots of different ways, right in our community!
