What to Bring:
Please bring your own preferred supplies.
- For Drawing Sessions: Sketchbook, pencils, charcoal, conte crayons, or ink.
- For Painting Sessions: Canvases or paper, acrylic or oil paints, brushes, and a palette.
Some basic drawing materials may be available on-site.

General Admission: $25
- Includes entry to one 3-hour workshop session for one person. Please select the specific date you wish to attend when purchasing.
Braid Mill Member: FREE
- Complimentary access for current Braid Mill members as a thank you for being part of our community! Please reserve your spot by selecting the date you wish to attend. Membership will be verified at the door.
About the Organizers
Tony Howard is a resident artist at Braid Mill whose work focuses on figurative and expressive forms. He is passionate about making art accessible and building a supportive creative community in Philadelphia.
Braid Mill is a beautifully restored historic textile mill in Germantown, now serving as a home for artists, entrepreneurs, and creative businesses. This event is part of our commitment to activating our space and serving as a cultural pillar for the neighborhood. This series is presented in partnership with Roots Lounge.
Agenda
WELCOME
Info: We’ll kick things off with a warm welcome and get to know each other. We’ll also do a quick and fun icebreaker to share some of the cool ideas you might want to paint.
Dreaming Up Ideas
Info: Let's get those creative gears turning! We’ll do a guided brainstorming activity, like sketching or mind mapping, to help you brainstorm ideas for your masterpiece. No idea is a bad idea!
Canvas Work Time
Info: Students transfer their ideas to canvas. Circulate to offer personalized feedback and assistance.
Painting Time!
Info: This is your time to shine! You'll transfer your ideas from paper to canvas using acrylic paints. Our instructors will be walking around to offer tips, answer questions, and help bring your vision to life.
Cleanup & Wrap-Up
Host: Anthony Tyrone Howard
Info: We’ll wind down by cleaning up our art stations together. We'll thank you for joining us and let you know about upcoming classes.
