About this Event
Ever wanted a love song about the person who drives you crazy? A rock anthem about the job you secretly can't stand? A ballad about the most beautiful mess of your life?
Paul Green will make it up on the spot. Right now. About you.
Love & Heartache is a one-of-a-kind comedy experience where the audience is the show. Every guest is invited to volunteer their name for the bucket — and those drawn to the stage get interviewed, celebrated, and immortalized in a fully original song, made up on the spot, never repeated, completely unrehearsed.
Part stand-up. Part live concert. Part talk show. It's like Matt Rife, Wayne Brady and the Price Is Right, all wrapped into one.
Paul Green has nearly 3,000 live performances across stand-up, musical theater, and improv comedy. Trained at iO West, Second City, and UCB, he has spent years turning strangers' lives into songs. He's getting better at it. The strangers keep getting weirder.
No drink minimum. No filler acts. No script. Just Paul, a piano, a bucket of names, and whatever happens next.
Every show is completely different. Because every audience is.
Ticket Options
General Admission — From $29.75 (Early Bird, first 10 tickets) Volunteer your name for the bucket. You might walk out with a song about your life that has never existed before and never will again. Either way, it's a great night.
VIP — From $63.75 (Early Bird) Skip the bucket. You're guaranteed on stage, guaranteed your song, guaranteed front row all night. You'll also receive a recording of your song after the show — proof that it happened, for the nights you need to remember why life is beautiful.
FAQ
What actually happens at this show? No two shows are ever the same. The main event is unlike anything you've seen — audience volunteers come on stage, Paul learns about their life, and improvises a fully original song about them on the spot, in any genre they choose. Country ballad about your divorce? Done. Death metal about your morning commute? Also done. The song exists for a few minutes and then it's gone forever — unless you were there.
Do I have to go on stage? Never. This show is 100% volunteer-based...The show is just as moving, funny, and surprising from the audience — sometimes more so, because you get to watch it happen to someone else.
What if I get drawn and I'm nervous? That's honestly the best part. Paul's entire job is to make you feel seen, not put on the spot. The more complicated your life, the better the song. He's been doing this for years. You'll be fine — and you'll probably cry laughing.
What does VIP include? Guaranteed spot on stage, front row seating all night, a song made up live about your actual life, a recording of your song delivered after the show, and photos with Paul. You don't leave without your moment.
Is there a drink minimum? No. Unlike most NYC comedy clubs there is no drink minimum. Room 52 has beverages available for purchase but nothing is required. Your ticket price is your ticket price.
How long is the show? Approximately 90 minutes, no intermission.
What's the venue like? Room 52 is an intimate, speakeasy-style venue in Midtown Manhattan — cozy, theatrical, and warm. The small size is part of what makes this show work. You're not watching from the back of a ballroom. You're in the room where it happens.
Is this appropriate for all ages? This is an 18+ event. The comedy is adult but never mean-spirited.
Can I request a specific genre? Absolutely. If you're called on stage Paul will ask what genre you want your life set to. He'll do his best. The weirder the request, the better the song.
What if it sells out? It will. Grab your tickets early — especially Early Bird and VIP, which are limited.
