The Katrina Forward series will host award-winning historian Andy Horowitz for a public lecture on Thursday, October 9, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Admission is free, with light refreshments to follow. Registration is required.Dr. Andy Horowitz is a historian and the author of Katrina: A History, 1915–2015 (Harvard University Press, 2020). Katrina: A History won the Bancroft Prize in History, which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the field, and was named the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities’ Book of the Year. He also co-edited Critical Disaster Studies (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2021), and recently guest edited a special issue of the journal Southern Cultures, “Katrina’s America.” Along with his academic scholarship, Horowitz has published essays in the Washington Post, Rolling Stone, and the New York Times. After years teaching at Tulane University, in 2023 Horowitz became an Associate Professor of History at the University of Connecticut, where he serves also as the Connecticut State Historian. He is a fellow of the Center for Louisiana Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
