LOUISE DUBIN - An “artist of refined taste and musicianship” (Strad Magazine), cellist Louise Dubin has performed as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player all over the world. Festival appearances include Norfolk, BargeMusic, Tanglewood, Savannah, and Caramoor. Solo performances include her recitals at Salle Gaveau, CRR and Reid Hall (Paris, France), the International Cello Festival (Beauvais, France), and many concerts in New York, South Carolina and North Carolina. In 2023, she premiered Roger Stubblefield’s Divertissement for Cello and Orchestra in Queens, the fourth composition of his she’s premiered. With Stefon Harris, she’s played Carnegie Hall, the Jazz Standard, and Chicago’s Symphony Hall to celebrate their Duke Ellington album “African Tarantella.” Formerly Principal Cellist of both the Charleston Symphony and the Auckland Philharmonia, she currently performs with New Jersey Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, and Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular orchestra as well as many other Broadway shows. Her album The Franchomme Project was acclaimed in Canada, UK, France and the US, where Strings Magazine called it a "rare musical treat that unfolds with radiant energy.” She's been featured on NPR’s Classical Tracks, Classical Classroom, and Performance Today. After completing her Bachelor’s degree at Columbia University and Juilliard, she earned a Doctorate from Indiana University School of Music, where she received the Eva Janzer scholarship for her studies with Janos Starker, and two IU Graduate School grants-in-aid awards, which funded her research of Auguste Franchomme in France. Her publications include Selected Works for Cello and Piano by Auguste Franchomme, for which she was commissioned to choose works and write the introduction (Dover Publications, 2017). Today’s concert celebrates her just-released second solo album, which features much of the music you’ll hear today! www.louise-dubin.com
