Join AARP Virginia and the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging/Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services and learn the red flags to proactively spot scams and protect yourself and your family, as well as how to report fraud.The Scam Jam and ShredFest features former San Diego Deputy District Attorney Paul Greenwood and Kate Kleinert, fraud survivor and a warrior in the fight against fraud. During this program, you will learn the red flags to proactively spot scams and protect yourself and your family, as well as how to report fraud. You will also meet Kate Kleinert and hear her incredible story of a romance scam that ended with a broken heart and the loss of $39,000, and what she’s doing about it now.
Additional remarks from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department, Loudoun County Adult Protective Services (APS), the FBI, the Center for Combating Elder Financial Abuse, and the US Postal Inspector. Visit with exhibitors and get free resources to empower you to be prepared, protect yourself, and help warn others.

A shred truck will be on site from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Your household documents will be shredded on-site, free of charge. Please do not bring any plastic or electronics.

The Virginia Department of Treasury will have a table and staff to assist you with starting the claim process for any unclaimed property you may have. Unclaimed property can be dormant or inactive bank accounts, uncashed checks, refunds, securities, dividends, insurance policy proceeds, etc. You will need your photo ID to submit your claim.
