The Loudoun Community Breakfast

Life can be stressful – you can say that again! We are all dealing with CHANGE, both invited and uninvited. This event gives you an opportunity to meet with old friends and meet new friends. We all have stories to tell and we long for Community. Please join us!

This breakfast is free, informative, and provides a fun yet meaningful setting to get to know others in your Loudoun County community. Networking is a mild part of the morning and not the primary focus. The focus is to connect with the many stories you’ll discover about the men and women who live, work, and play in our Community.

The event begins with coffee and a little networking, then is followed by breakfast. We will provide a few questions that will charge up the table discussion.

Then you will hear from our storyteller: Shira Lotzar

Shira Lotzar will share her story at this breakfast. A little about Shira...

Shira is married and lives locally. She is the oldest of four, and grew up in a middle-class home in Silver Spring, MD. Raised by a family with strongly held beliefs, her parents sacrificed summer vacations (and other niceties) to send her to a private school which espoused those same values.

Her upbringing significantly influenced how Shira saw the world, and in particular, gave her a very isolated lens in how she related to certain ethnic populations.

Shira dutifully carried these values with her while attending the University of Maryland, and because she is a “connector / convener” by nature, she decided to showcase her passion by founding an ethnic cultural group on campus that aligned with her values.

So, it was an obvious next step for her to study abroad during her junior year in that very same region of the world.

Returning to the University of Maryland in her senior year to complete her Bachelor’s and begin her Masters, she assumed her life path would proceed according to her prescribed upbringing.

But then one day her world turned upside down.

What happened? What caused Shira to rethink her closely held beliefs, and reshape how she saw everyone around her?
