About this Event

Loud and Clear: A Children's Public Speaking Workshop is a free special event that seeks to encourage and strengthen the communication skills of young people between the ages of 8-14. The workshop will focus on helping them develop:

  • Public speaking skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Confidence speaking in front of others
  • Communication of ideas
  • Projection
  • Articulation
  • Eloquence
  • Etiquette
  • Debate-style communication
  • Poetry/spoken word as one speaking style

These are transferable skills that will support young people later in school, college, career, corporate spaces, and other aspects of life.


Poets Speak Louder is an international organization that trains poets, spoken word artists, speakers, and communicators broadly. Established on our Christian faith, we seek to serve God and people through creating communal environments where writing and speaking gifts can be discovered, sharpened, and used in various capacities to add value to our world. Our events are open to people from all backgrounds.


About the host: Dr. Fortunate Kelechi is a gifted writer, academic scholar, youth advocate, and spoken word poet born and raised in Brooklyn, New York with Nigerian heritage. ​​She is currently based in Chicago, Illinois where she recently completed a doctoral degree in Human Development and Social Policy at Northwestern University. ​​​​As a Spoken Word Poet, she has had the privilege to speak on national and international stages, across multiple cities, and before diverse populations. She is the founder of Poets Speak Louder and serves as a teacher and mentor to over 80 poets and spoken word artists across more than 6 countries.
