Galleria De' Foscherari is pleased to announce Claire Fontaine's first solo show in Bologna, curated by Fabiola Naldi.Lotta is an exhibition project specifically conceived for the de' Foscherari Gallery, creating a tension between representation and reproduction through difference and repetition, reflecting the intent to explore the complex intersections between art, value and symbolic violence by contextualizing Claire Fontaine's most recent research on political impotence in the era of the normalization of censorship.
The title of the exhibition appears in a crossed-out neon: "Lotta" (struggle), imperative and a noun, figures as an inaccessible space and yet is advertised as such by the luminous sign.
In particular, this exhibition project focuses of the issue of repetition in painting, the crisis of authorship, the tension between the figurative and the abstract, between alteration and composition.
The vandalization of paintings in museums - recently deployed by various political groups as a tool for creating visibility of hidden or normalized violence - here becomes another visual paradigm: handmade reproductions of L'origine du monde are painted and altered by the artist hiding the female nudity portrayed.
The paintings damaged by activists are used here as references: works in which the further intervention of a political hand generates a profound meaning distant from the most obvious reflection on the loss of their original state of integrity.
The exibition will open on Saturday 18 January 2025 at 6pm and will be open to visitors until May 1st 2025.
