In consultation with LOSS Team Founders, this training equips volunteers to respond to the needs of suicide loss survivors.
About this Event

LOSS, Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors, is an active suicide postvention model involving 2 or more trained volunteers, a LOSS Team. This team responds to the scene of a suicide to provide immediate support to those left behdind. At least one of the two training volunteers is a survivor of suicide loss. LOSS Team volunteers provide support, resources, and understanding.


This training will cover the following topics:

  • The history of L.O.S.S. Teams and why they are important
  • What it is like to be on the scene
  • Resources for survivors
  • Volunteer code of conduct/crime scene etiquette
  • Eight Core Action of Psychological First Aid
  • Role Plays
  • Self-Compassion/Self-Care
  • Companioning vs. Treatment models of grief support

Please dress comfortably – jeans are welcome.

Snacks and waters will be provided – lunch will be on your own.


Everyone is asked to complete the free, online psychological first aid certification before attending. This takes about 5 hours and is self-paced (you’ll need to create a login). - https://learn.nctsn.org/course/index.php?categoryid=11
