About this Event
LOSS, Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors, is an active suicide postvention model involving 2 or more trained volunteers, a LOSS Team. This team responds to the scene of a suicide to provide immediate support to those left behdind. At least one of the two training volunteers is a survivor of suicide loss. LOSS Team volunteers provide support, resources, and understanding.
This training will cover the following topics:
- The history of L.O.S.S. Teams and why they are important
- What it is like to be on the scene
- Resources for survivors
- Volunteer code of conduct/crime scene etiquette
- Eight Core Action of Psychological First Aid
- Role Plays
- Self-Compassion/Self-Care
- Companioning vs. Treatment models of grief support
Please dress comfortably – jeans are welcome.
Snacks and waters will be provided – lunch will be on your own.
Everyone is asked to complete the free, online psychological first aid certification before attending. This takes about 5 hours and is self-paced (you’ll need to create a login). - https://learn.nctsn.org/course/index.php?categoryid=11
