About this Event

After establishing itself for a decade as a reference group in Puerto Rican Plena with their albums Mucho gusto, soy de la Isla (2015) and Puerto Rico Vive (2021), Los Pleneros de la Cresta continue to pave the way with contributions to the preservation and dissemination of the Afro-Puerto Rican genre. Their most recent collaboration with saxophonist and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenón on the song Navegando is part of the production Música de las Américas, which received a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Latin Jazz Album (2022). A group born at the University of Puerto Rico, Los Pleneros de la Cresta recently received critical acclaim for their participation in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival to celebrate the life of the late maestro plenero Héctor René "Tito" Matos, and in the annual Banco Popular Holiday special ( 2022) in homage to the prolific composer Catalino "Tite" Curet Alonso with the song “Sobre una tumba humilde” with the renowned urban artist Rainao. Currently its members are Joseph Ocasio Rivera, Joshuan Ocasio Rivera, Jeyluix Ocasio Rivera and Josue Roman Figueroa, all born and raised in the Frontón neighborhood of the town of Ciales, Puerto Rico.
