Campground Info

Located in the Los Padres National Forest, the Campo Alto Campground allows up to 70 people and we selected it because of its remoteness and camp vibe.

"At 8,250 feet the campground is shaded by a thick blanket of Jeffrey pine. Great views of the Carrizo Plain to the north, Cuyama Valley, Quatal and Apache Canyons to the west, as well as views of the San Joaquin valley to the east and Lockwood Valley and Sespe ranges to the south, are also some prevalent attributes of this little piece of heaven." - website

The campground is at the end of the Cerro Noroeste Rd, it's the last stop. Ride it until you can ride it no mo'. The road is paved to the campground.

Los Angeles Moto’s primary interest is riding motorcycles and if we can hang out and camp with fellow riders who love the same, all the better. This will be the first ever Los Angeles Moto campout and hopefully not the last!

Los Angeles Moto Campout is an overnight, Saturday to Sunday ride and camp event.

We hope to ride with you, kick it at the campground, have some fun and games, raffle off some prizes, have a beer (or twenty), enjoy a meal prepared by our hostess, sip on some rock & rye, share moments together and turning in for the night before trekking on back to civilization Sunday morning.

Motorcycle campouts are a little different from motorcycle camping. One difference is the food & drink situation. We'll have water, soft drinks and beer & booze. We'll have food and snacks for everyone. Bring booze if you must but otherwise we encourage you to leave cooking gear and supplies at home. Use the space you just saved for a duffel bag you can use as a pillow.

Pack light. We'll have just about everything you need there already. Bring the personal items such as a tent, a sleeping bag or a blanket, a hammock, but you don't have to worry about things like firewood, sun tents and coolers. If you have a motorcycle camping chair, bring it, you'll probably use it.

Tickets

The capacity of the campground is 70 people. We intend to have some staff and volunteers so we'll be selling about 60 tickets. We're releasing the first batch of 20 and seeing how it goes. Please bear with us! We'll be releasing additional tickets over time.

Please note this event is 21+, rain or shine and the tickets are non-transferable but they are refundable until two weeks prior in case your plans change and you can't make it.

If you have any questions as you buy tickets please feel free to reach out to us via EventBrite event page or Instagram. Please bookmark and refer to this page as the source of information about the campout.

UPDATE: Well, that didn’t take long. The first batch of tickets was gone in less than half an hour. The demand is obviously high and since we intend to be inclusive and equitable, we enabled the Waitlist feature on EventBrite event page. We will release an additional batch of tickets soon.

We are now completely sold out.

Please join the waitlist and we will release the tickets on the first come, first served basis if there any cancellations or increased capacity.

"Buy the ticket, take the ride." - Hunter S. Thompson

Ride

If you're interested in riding with others to the campout, we encourage everyone to meet at Deus Ex Machina (1001 Venice Blvd, Venice, CA 90291) on Saturday at 10am for a 10:30 KSU departure.

GPS
34.831589, -119.209918
Routes

We have a few route options for you to get to the campground:

 • Straight shot - I-5 (100 miles)
 • Coastal - CA-33 (165 miles)
 • No freeway (125 miles)

Here's a link to Google Maps.

The final stretch to the campground is some of the best riding Southern California has to offer.

Please slow down and be careful around some potholes and patches of gravel caused by falling rock. The deer are getting bigger and they cross the road, along with bears, who mate in June and July.

Otherwise, any street motorcycle should be okay, the 650 cafe racer pictured on this page made it just fine.

Think about the time of day when you're going to be traveling because of the excessive heat. You may want to consider riding at night or early morning to get close to campground around lunch time before proceeding to the campground.

Can I come if I’m under 21 years old?
No, sorry! California law is zero-tolerance for underage drinking. Since we will have a beer and a booze sponsor and campers can bring in their own alcohol, we cannot be responsible.

Can I bring my kid? Pet?
No and no. Get a babysitter and doggysitter so you can enjoy your campout!

Can I bring a passenger?
Yes, but they will need to buy their own ticket. Tickets are sold one ticket per person.

Can I come hang out?
Yes, but you will need to buy a ticket.

Can I buy multiple tickets?
One at a time, one ticket per person please.

What do I need to bring?
Suggestions: Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, chair, bug repellent, headlamp, water bottle and a mug, sunscreen, ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper. Camp vibes is a must!

How do I check in?
We will have wristbands for all registered campers.

Are we pre-assigned camping spots?
No. You’ll choose a spot when you arrive. There’s plenty of space, flat areas and shade. You can park your bike and set up your tent in the same area. Please be neighborly!

Are tickets refundable/transferable?
Refunds will be a case by case basis. Refunds close July 10. Tickets are not transferable. Ticket sales close July 11.

Do I have to camp?
No, you don't have to stay the night and we’d hate to see you go but please ride responsibly.

Are there toilets/running water?
There are two restrooms with vaulted toilets. There should be plenty of toilet paper. No running water at the bathrooms or at the campground. We’ll have hand sanitizer and wet wipes available so you can freshen up.

Will there be campfire?
Yes, we'll have a propane fire pit!

Can I drive there?
No, motorcycles only. Pack light and pack tight on your bike because the only other vehicles at the campground will be hauling party supplies. Since we'll be providing food & drink you won't need anything outside of camping gear.

Do I need cash?
Yes, cash is preferred for raffle tickets. We will be drawing for some awesome prizes!

Is there cell phone service?
Spotty. Your mileage may vary. Wonderful excuse to unplug for the weekend. We recommend you use the camera features on your phone to capture memories.

What are we eating and drinking?
We will be cooking dinner on the grills at the campground. There will be options for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans too. Also, all the s’mores! House Beer is generously providing us with lots of beer. Slow & Low is providing us with booze. We’ll also have water bottles and some non-alcoholic drinks too.

What am I paying for exactly?
$30 is going primarily to pay for the food, water, ice, drinks, camping items needed for food preparation and camp fees.

What can I do to contribute?
We set up a GoFundMe page for those looking to donate money to the campout.

If you're looking for volunteer your time, please reach out to us via EventBrite event page or Instagram, or by leaving a comment with your registration.

Will there be a ride down to the campground?
Please self-organize to get to the campground. We'll provide a few route options starting off from Deus Ex Machina (1001 Venice Blvd, Venice, CA 90291) at 10am on Saturday, July 24, including a coastal and a no-freeway routes. Can I volunteer to help out with the event?
We'll make an open call for volunteers as needed. The process is the same, please get a ticket and it'll be refunded upon successful completion of your shift.

What about colors?
Sorry, this is not a motorcycle club sanctioned event and colors are not allowed.

What bike do I need to bring?
Any street-legal motorcycle.

What about booze?
Slow & Low is sponsoring this event and providing us with their signature rock & rye.

Can I set up a hammock?
Yes, but you’ll need straps instead of rope to tie around the trees and branches. Be warned you’ll probably have to fight off the people who will want to lounge on your hammock.

What if the campground is not available?
We'll re-locate or re-schedule as appropriate.

How much dirt road to get there?
Virtually none, the road is paved to campground, but there are a few gravel-y and sandy potholes where we encourage people to slow down and pick a line. The last few dozen feet have more gravel and sand so please be careful. We also want to suggest that riders air down about 5 PSI and adjust their suspension preload if carrying gear.

Are there any bears?
The Forest Service posted that there’s been some bear sightings. We encourage everyone to slow down on the way up to and back from the campout and to leave your food at home. We’ll secure food and drink that we’ll be making available to everyone. Remember a bear don’t care, and it’ll tear up your bike and tent for a pack of gum.
