Join us for a captivating evening with historian Nathan Marsak, one of the most insightful interpreters of Los Angeles’ architectural and cultural past. Marsak studied under the influential LA historian Reyner Banham at UC Santa Cruz and completed graduate work with Sullivan/Wright scholar Narciso Menocal at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His professional background includes curatorial work at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, service as historian for the LAPD Museum archives, and authorship of Bunker Hill Los Angeles and Los Angeles Neon.In this talk, Marsak will delve into his newest book, Los Angeles Before the Freeways, revealing the communities, landscapes, and forgotten histories that shaped the region long before the freeway system transformed its identity. Expect a richly detailed journey into the early development of Los Angeles and the forces that reshaped its neighborhoods and culture.
