National Park Service scientist Melanie Flamme will show short videos and a presentation about loon research in Alaska's northern National Parks. This is a free presentation.Yellow-billed loons are monitored by the National Park Service Arctic Network Inventory and Monitoring program in Bering Land Bridge National Preserve and Cape Krusenstern National Monument. These large, rare long-lived loons return to the same breeding lakes each year making them ideal to monitoring long-term population trends.
The Yellow-billed loon is considered one of the ten rarest breeding birds of the mainland United States. Come and learn why this research is important.
