About this Event
Smoke Hole is a reflection on our modern age through the re-telling of three ancient stories. He invites us to use these stories to help find ‘a commons for the imagination, a place to breathe deeper, feel steadier and become acquainted with rapture.’ Smoke Hole is a passionate call to arms and an invitation to use these stories to face contemporary complexities, from fake news to parenthood, climate crises, addictive technology and more.
Shaw tours around the world, recently alongside musician Glen Hansard with sell-out nights in front of thousands at Union Chapel. His most recent book , was a Guardian Book of the Day, and he is also a wilderness rites of passage guide and spent four years living in a tent. Shaw founded the Oral Tradition and Living Myth courses at Stanford University.
‘A true and transformative enchanter’ ROWAN WILLIAMS ‘A mystical voyage, a deep descent’ GUARDIAN ‘An alchemist of unique power and downright goodness. There is Shaw and there is everyone else’ CHARLES FOSTER’ Like its author, this book is unlike anything else around’ PAUL KINGSNORTH ‘This book gives permission. In a world that increasingly sets boundariesaround what it isacceptable to think and feel, Shaw’s work comes as relief, like cold clear water from a rushing spring’ ERICA WAGNER, SUNDAY TIMES
