Looking after peat soils in the Fens - is new farming needed?

Dr Elizabeth Stockdale from the National Institute for agricultural Botany (NIAB) has over 25 years applied soil and nutrient management research experience.
Liz will explore the triple challenge faced in lowland peat landscapes where farmers are being asked to help deliver food security, net zero and improve biodiversity all at the same time. In this context, rewetting to protect peat soils is an important option, but this may make current farming systems infeasible. Hence new farming systems and new crops may be needed. We’ll explore some of the options and their implications together.
