Where basketball meets community. ??The B.Well Foundation is excited to host our 5th annual Long Shots Basketball Tournament and Community Celebration on October 26, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Evelyn K. Davis Park.
Longshots is a celebration of basketball, art, music, and community, where students gain valuable lessons from community leaders on becoming active citizens dedicated to supporting and nurturing their communities for years to come.
At the heart of LongShots lies a commitment to inclusivity and community engagement. Without the burden of financial obligation, this annual 3x3 Basketball Tournament and Community Celebration provides an equal playing field for all – bringing together students of all backgrounds, abilities, and playing levels.
This annual tournament not only brings together community members, friends, families, and neighbors but also serves as a vital fundraiser to support basketball programs in local schools, which have been significantly impacted by recent budget cuts. Every year, we award each of the five Des Moines high school basketball programs with a $1,000 donation.
The money is used to offset expenses during the basketball season. This year marks $25,000 that’s been given back through the event.
Beyond the 3x3 basketball tournament, the free event brings the entire community together for a day filled with local creatives:
- Interactive art activities led by Siricasso
- Food by Joppa Experience and Steib's Bayou
- Music by CDisiac
- Free haircuts
- "Half-Time Spotlight" featuring:
Elementary basketball scrimmage
Special Olympics scrimmage
Performances by DMPS students from our Creative Coaches programming: Breaking with ASan and R.A.W. (Real Afro Warriors) Dancers of King Elementary
