Longleaf pines covered the southeast at one time, and restoration of these magnificent trees is ongoing. Ashantilly has a demonstration longleaf mini forest (16 acres). Two events featuring these pines are upcoming - one on Earth Day, APRIL 22 at 10 where you can learn with Ga Forestry and McIntosh SEED about the prescribed burn we had in February, and other conservation techniques for the longleafs. Then on MAY 11th, Carol Denhof from The Longleaf Alliance will bring to the Center a brief documentary about these trees, and will also have the newest book available "The Forest that Fire Made" which Carol co-authored with John McGuire and Byron Levan. A panel discussion and Q & A about Longleaf restoration will follow. Books will be available for sale, A donation to either the Longleaf Alliance or Ashantilly Center would be appreciated.
