The concert opens with Adam Schoenberg?s Cool Cat, inspired by Los Angeles P22 and George Gershwins Cuban Overture paying homage to Sandovals Cuban heritage and blending Cuban rhythms with rich instrumentation. Paul Hindemiths Symphonic Metamorphosis showcases the orchestras prowess, and Sandovals own magnum opus, Concerto for Trumpet No. 2 is accentuated by his display and versatility in trumpet, piano, vocals, and storytelling. The evening concludes with Rachmaninoffs emotive Adagio, offering a profound musical journey of introspection.
