“One-Woman Wonder” Priyanka Shetty’s THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM is a witty comedy about just your typical Indian metalhead and software-engineer-turned-actor who must navigate life as an immigrant in Trump’ America. Gear up for a funny, tumultuous ride through immiscible cultures, unforgettable love, and the desperation of not belonging anywhere.
2) Butterfly Tongue
by Richard-Yves Sitoski
Produced by Richard-Yves Sitoski
Butterfly Tongue is a moving tragi-comic tale set in Owen Sound at the repeal of prohibition (1972!). It follows a hardboiled foundry worker as he wanders through town, reliving his star-crossed relationship with Susan – a hippie with two things on her back: a monkey, and an angel’s wings.
3) How Did We Get Here?
by Jacob Wiley
Produced by PentaTheatre
This is the story of Alice and Melody, two women with a special connection to one another in an unaccepting world. We get the unique opportunity to explore and dissect their forbidden romance, as we ask ourselves- How Did We Get Here?
4) Jelimana
Produced by Hwabaraty
A story of Identity, self-discovery, and belonging in Indigenous African Spirituality.
Told through music, dance, and narration, this piece will walk audiences through a journey of self-discovery. Using an original soundtrack and traditional African folk dance, Jelimana tells the story of a man whose predicament leaves him with no choice but to reconnect with his ancestral roots. Suitable for children aged 6+ and their families, the performances will be captivating and inspiring, leaving audiences reflecting on their own identities.
5) Starfish
By Nicolas Noguera
Produced by 42 Electric Blue
Starfish is a dance theater piece about the starfish at the beach that get washed inland, too far from the waves. It is about a child who goes to help the stranded starfish, and the adult that tells the child that it is hopeless. There will always be starfish that get stranded. “Starfish” takes that conflict, puts it under a microscope, and abstracts it into dance. The dancers of “Starfish” tell a story with space, time, and their imaginations.
6) Goddess in the Gallery
by Buddy Young
Co-Produced by Buddy Young and Jeff Orchard
“A mystery. A mystery wrapped within death–a death culminating a life of inspiration. That’s what confronts us tonight.” With these words, the staff of the Emprise Art Gallery unveil a long-lost masterpiece, only to find more of an enigma than they ever expected. A tale of death, art, love, despair, and redemption.
